May 22, 2008 - Advocate for Christian Aid raising funds for earthquake disaster victims
Dorothy Sun, Director of the China Division, received a call from a Christian Aid advocate.
She reports, "I talked to one of our long-time faithful partners, who listened to my plea for help for the Ark Handicapped Orphanage in China. He and his wife not only gave a very generous donation themselves, but they are contacting all of their relatives, friends and church family and are encouraging them to give their help, as well."
Last year Christian Aid contributors were able to get these children out of a very old building that was in very poor condition. That building collapsed during the quake, but [Praise God!] all of the children have been living in the new, sturdier building for the past year, so they escaped any harm.
Dorothy also reported that government authorities have requested that this Christian orphanage take in more children who were orphaned during the earthquake. They are glad to do it, but they lack the resources to feed and clothe them. One Hundred orphans have already been brought in, but they have to sleep on the floor, and none of the children are getting enough to eat.
Also, a discipleship center in Gansu Province, 100 miles from the epicenter, sustained serious damage to the school buildings. Another Bible school in northern Sichuan Province had to stop holding classes because the facilities and water supply were destroyed. Minor damages to Bible schools in Yunnan, Guizhou and Qinghai provinces and in Tibet were reported.
Pray for the rebuilding of facilities and the urgent need for food supplies, medicines and daily needs of Christian Aid assisted mission projects in the affected areas.
